INDIAN WOODS MIDDLE SCHOOL | NEW CONSTRUCTION

Location: sHAWNEE mISSION School District

Size: 9,000 SF

cost: $3,400,000

Built in the 1960’s and added onto several times over the decades, Indian Woods Middle school had fallen behind the times and now acts as a barrier for how students want to learn and teachers want to educate today. With a limited budget and a tight timeline, iDS was charged with making the biggest impact to the traditional classroom wing, by giving students access to collaboration and flexible learning opportunities on each of the three floor levels.

Our solution was a three-story addition between the two existing stair towers, converting the narrow single loaded corridor to a widened double loaded corridor with a large collaboration space and flexible learning rooms on each side that can be used for maker spaces, media production, robotics, small group learning, etc.

In addition to the new learning environments, private toilets and locker rooms were also addressed. The building is also receiving updated mechanical systems, new media screens in all classrooms with updated network cabling and lastly new furniture throughout.
