PLATTE COUNTY R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT | LONG RANGE FACILITY PLAN

Location: Platte County R-III School District

incite Design Studio was selected in 2019 to complete the facility master plan for the district. iDS spent time in each of the district facilities looking at the current conditions of the building and site. The plan will serve as a valuable tool for future facility-related decision making for the district.

Following the long range facility master plan, iDS was hired to redesign the Platte County High School. The district’s lone High School is the product of several additions and combinations of buildings since the 1960s, making wayfinding a challenge. In addition, high schoolers had to walk outside 400 yards to get from one adjacent building to another. The solution was to redesign the High School, rather than continue to add on.

When planning the new High School with stakeholders, one of the visions was to make the school flexible and allow it to operate as a typical core subject organized building with the flexibility to switch to a pathway led building in the future.

The preliminary scope of work is 272,400 square foot of new construction with only the existing auditorium to remain. Also included is a complete overhaul of the site and traffic patterns, a new baseball field and upgrades to the existing athletics complex.

The total work at the High School will be funded by two separate bond campaigns therefore being completed in two phases. The new Platte County High School will house approximately 1,600 students and will embody Platte County School District’s 8 Principles of Learning.
