Sutton Trucking

After purchasing a 25.5 acre site in Lee’s Summit, MO, Sutton Trucking, Inc. and Western Material & Design, LLC approached iDS to design their commercial headquarters as well as a repair garage for their shipping fleet.

Initial master-planning for the project include plans to connect a rail spur to existing freight train tracks that border the west edge of the property. The site will provide sufficient parking area to securely store a minimum of 100 semi-trucks and trailers with additional space to expand as the company grows.

The commercial office includes a welcoming two-story lobby, two large conference rooms, kitchen/break rooms on each floor, open office space able to accommodate 24 workspaces and 28 private offices. Sizable walls of glass create an open and welcoming lobby. Polished concrete floors and a board-formed concrete wall showcase products that the company provides to their customers. To minimize the solar impact of having south and east-facing glass walls in the lobby, large overhangs were designed to provide shade for the lobby in the summer months.

Using components of a pre-engineered metal building, the approximately 21,750 square foot garage includes eight bays, will be used for trucking repairs, vehicle and trailer washing, parts storage and distribution. A mezzanine provides out-of-town drivers a lounge, kitchenette, sleeping quarters and shower facilities.

This project was completed in March of 2018.
